ONE HEALTH SEMINAR SERIES

We are excited to announce the One Health Seminar Series for Spring 2026! Join us every fourth Wednesday of the month for an opportunity to network and connect with other One Health researchers at Colorado State. Each seminar typically consists of a 30–40 minute presentation followed by an open Q&A discussion. Feel free to bring your own lunch! The format is informal and designed to encourage dialogue and idea-sharing among colleagues and students. Each seminar will occur in Johnson Hall Room 129 or via Microsoft Teams.

“The One Health Concept: In Action” by Dr. Mo Salman, DVM, PhD.

January 28th, 2026

Dr. Mo Salman is a distinguished professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences at Colorado State University and the founder and director of the Animal Population Health Institute within the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Salman is dedicated to education, developing case studies for field training of public animal health officers worldwide and contributing to CSU’s academic programs for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.

“Assessing and Reducing Environmental Chronic Wasting Disease Prion Load” by Dr. Mark Zabel, Ph.D.

Dr. Mark Zabel is Professor and Associate Director of the Prion Research Center, Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University. He earned a PhD in Experimental Pathology from the University of Utah School of Medicine, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Adriano Aguzzi at the Institute for Neuropathology, University Hospital of Zürich, Switzerland. Dr. Zabel’s research focuses on prion immunology, pathology, diagnostics and therapeutics. His lab developed nonviral delivery platforms using lipid nanoparticles to deliver transcript-suppressing and gene-editing tools to neural cells to decrease prion protein expression that negatively impacts prion replication to prevent terminal prion disease. His most recent work focuses on prion ecology and efforts to mitigate environmental prion contamination. 

“A Reason to Hope – Community Based Participatory Research” by Dr. Shannon Archibeque-Engle, Ph.D.

March 25th, 2026

Dr. Shannon Archibeque-Engle, Colorado State University Associate Vice President in the Office of Engagement and Extension has an active research agenda that is integrated into and informs her administrative and academic responsibilities. Dr. Archibeque-Engle’s award-winning research focuses on an intersectional and critical analysis of higher education, particularly agricultural higher education. She has a master of science in toxicology and a doctorate in higher education leadership, both from Colorado State University.
