Veterinary Medicine and Interprofessional Education: Defining One Health

The One Health Institute co-sponsored the second annual COHA Interprofessional Education and One Health meeting in Jacksonville, Florida, on March 14, 2024. The meeting brought together scholars and practitioners from Interprofessional Education (IPE) and One Health, with the goal of including veterinary medicine in traditional interprofessional activities and expanding One Health education offerings to other health professions. CSU One Health Institute’s One Health/One Medicine Fellow, Claire Tucker, attended and facilitated a session at the meeting.

Keynotes included Dr. John Tegzes from Western University of Health Sciences and Dr. Paul Plummer from Iowa State University. Dr. Jon Geller, founder of the Street Dog Coalition and Colorado School of Public Health instructor, delivered compelling abstracts on the value of interprofessional street medicine. The COHA IPE Working Group also set goals to deploy a national IPE/One Health activity on antimicrobial resistance for all COHA schools.

This annual symposium is the output of a grant from the Clinical and Translational Science Award One Health Alliance (COHA). It represents a partnership among COHA institutions, including Colorado State University, the University of Colorado–Anschutz, the University of Florida, the University of Minnesota, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Wisconsin.
